Merson Names The Two Signings That Will Turn United Into A “Major Force” Once Again

Paul Merson believes Manchester United will be a “major force” to be reckoned with if they sign Arsenal forward Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang and Aston Villa’s Jack Grealish in the summer.

The Sky Sports pundit says the pair, combined with January signing Bruno Fernandes, could turn them into title contenders:

“They [Manchester United] are crying out for someone who is going to score them 20 to 25 goals. And that’s what Aubameyang can bring. Add a Grealish if they can get him and then you’ve got Bruno Fernandes as well playing in behind a striker, Manchester United will be a major force.”

Aubameyang has been linked with a move to Old Trafford in recent days, with reports claiming that the 30-year-old could be sold by the Gunners to prevent him leaving for nothing at the end of next season.

United’s interest in Grealish is well documented, with it being claimed that the Aston Villa playmaker is being targeted by manager Ole Gunnar Solskjaer, along with Leicester’s James Maddison.

Aubameyang could cost as much as £50m despite the Gabonese international heading into the final year of his contract, while estimates for Grealish’s price tag have been as high as £70m. A £100m+ outlay on the pair would, therefore, be likely.
