Where Will Mason Mount Play For Manchester United Next Season?

Mason Mount will be playing for Manchester United next season in the Premier League, after he made the jump from Chelsea for a transfer fee of £55 million.

While certain sections of the United fanbase were delighted to have welcomed such a good, hard-working player to the club, others were more sceptical.

Some have questioned his form last season, which was less than stellar – however, their main concern is where he will fit into the Red Devils’ starting eleven.

It is a legitimate concern – given the transfer fee paid, manager Erik Ten Hag will feel under pressure to include him in the matchday squad – but where?

Which players could be dropped from the squad to accommodate Mason Mount?

As a player, Mount has two natural positions – central attacking midfield and on the left wing. While he can play as a right winger, he is less effective in this role, as it does not allow him to cut inside on his preferred foot.

Sadly, these two positions are currently occupied by two of United’s strongest players – Marcus Rashford and Bruno Fernandes. Both players are practically indispensable within the team – to drop either for Mount could have a detrimental effect on the squad as a whole.

As such, this leaves another role up for grabs – box-to-box midfield. United have struggled in this position for years, with players such as Fred and Scott McTominay having underwhelmed on countless occasions.

While Mount has little experience in this role, he could fulfil it theoretically. He has a very high work ethic – it is one of his most underrated traits. Furthermore, he also possesses wonderful technical ability and a range of passing – while it would be a gamble, we think this could be where Mount will play next season predominantly.

Will Mason Mount be a success for Manchester United?

Currently, it is difficult to say. Mount struggled last season for Chelsea – but this can hardly be blamed solely on him, as the entire squad largely underperformed.

If Mount can recapture the form he enjoyed back in 2021, then we would back him to be a success at United – but this is, of course, merely hypothetical at this stage.
