Manchester United manager Ole Gunnar Solskjaer has confirmed that both Anthony Martial and Luke Shaw are out of tomorrow’s game against Southampton.

Shaw picked up a hamstring injury in the 2-1 defeat to Crystal Palace last weekend while Martial has a thigh injury and won’t be available until after the international break.

With Romelu Lukaku and Alexis Sanchez having both departed the club, Martial’s place could be taken by Mason Greenwood, The 17-year-old could make his second start at senior level after coming on as a substitute in the first three games of the season.

Shaw’s absence means that Ashley Young will likely deputise. The 34-year-old played 56 minutes against Palace after he replaced Shaw in the first half and will be the favourite to start at St Mary’s tomorrow.

Jesse Lingard’s form has also raised questions about his starting spot in the team. Juan Mata would be the prime candidate to replace him in order to provide the team with more creativity.
