Martial Delivers Veiled Criticism Of Mourinho As He Praises New Attacking Style At United

Manchester United forward Anthony Martial believes the club’s attacking talents have been let off the leash by interim boss Ole Gunnar Solskjaer.

Speaking ahead of tonight’s Champions League clash against Paris Saint-Germain, the Frenchman explained the difference between the Norwegian and the club’s former coach Jose Mourinho:

“He is asking me to attack more. That is my job after all. To make the difference to be more decisive. Things are working out well for the other attackers and I hope we can continue to be as effective.”

“We have got a coach who has different intentions [to the previous coach] and we are trying to do what he asks. Perhaps it is easier to play this style of football and not the style of football he asked.”

Interestingly, Martial’s contributions in front of goal haven’t altered that match since Solskjaer joined the club.

The 23-year-old has scored three goals and provided one assist in eight appearances since the change in management. He scored eight in 19 appearances under Mourinho.

His performances have, however, improved markedly under Solskjaer’s guidance, along with the rest of the United squad.

Clearly, the positive approach is helping him to flourish and he is certainly happy to play his part in the club’s revival.

Martial signed a new contract at the end of the month, despite speculation in the summer that he could be sold with the likes of Arsenal, Tottenham and Chelsea all interested.
