Manchester United vs Leicester City Match Preview and Predictions

Manchester United will be looking to continue their fine start to the 17/18 Premier League campaign against Leicester City. Mourinho’s men have taken 6 points from a possible 6 so far, winning both games 4-0. Leicester on the other hand lost 4-3 to Arsenal on the opening day, but beat Brighton 2-0 last weekend to get their season up and running. United will be aware of Leicester’s ability going into the game, the Foxes look like a side who could challenge for a top 6 finish despite having a tough round of opening fixtures.

Mourinho has no new injury problems going into the game. Luke Shaw and Ashley Young are back in training after playing 60 minutes for the U23 side, defender Marcos Rojo is still months from returning from serious knee ligament damage.

Leicester’s Robert Huth (ankle) and Wes Morgan (back), midfielders Danny Drinkwater (thigh)and Vicente Iborra (groin) and forward Kelechi Iheanacho (toe) were ruled out of Leicester’s League Cup clash against Sheffield United on Tuesday night, so could be unavailable for the game at Old Trafford.

Manchester United have lost just two of their 22 Premier League meetings with Leicester City, with only one of these at Old Trafford. Leicester City will provide some fire power going forward, having scored in all but one of their 15 Premier League matches under Craig Shakespeare. Jamie Vardy has scored in eight of these games, and after an injury scare against Brighton, the hitman should be available to face United.

Romelu Lukaku has had a fine start to life in the Premier League with Manchester United so far, and will be looking to become the first United player to score in each of their opening three Premier League appearances for the club. The Belgian has scored 15 goals in his last 11 Premier League appearances at home (13 in 10 for Everton, two in one for Manchester United) – and will hope for more of the same against the Foxes.

Henrikh Mkhitaryan will be a key man to watch for Leicester, the Armenian has already registered four assists in two Premier League games this season – three more than he managed all of last season. Juan Mata has started both of United’s opening games, and the Spaniard loves playing against Leicester. He has scored for Manchester United in both of their home and away victories against Leicester City in 2016-17, whilst also assisting in their 4-1 win at Old Trafford.

Manchester United will be looking to extend their lead at the top of the Premier League with hopefully yet another clean sheet and bag of goals, Leicester will be a stern test though, and it will be interesting to see how Mourinho sets out his side.
