Manchester United vs Ipswich: Predicted XI

Manchester United take on Ipswich Town tomorrow in a Capital One Cup tie. United will host the Championship side, with the Tractor Boys sitting 5th in the table.

Van Gaal has certainly has some big decisions to make. In the reverse fixture last season, the Dutchman opted to play various first team players mixed with some reserves – a decision which massively backfired as his side slumped to an embarrassing 4-0 defeat to then League 1 side MK Dons.

This time around, United will face an in-form Ipswich side who are well up there in contention for promotion to the Premier League, so will he opt for experience? Or will he give the youth a chance to shine.

Last night Manchester United’s U21 side ran out 3-1 winners against Everton, a game in which Johnstone, Lingard and Wilson all played a part in. All three of those players were heavily tipped for a start in the Capital One Cup, but that seems unlikely now given their appearances yesterday.

Paddy McNair came on against Southampton on Sunday, his first piece of action for the season, sparking suspicion that he could be set to play against Ipswich. He could be partnered by Valencia in the defence, a player who was also introduced by Van Gaal against the Saints.

As for the midfield, Andreas Pereira could make his first appearance of the season for the senior team – the attacking midfielder could play a part on the right.

Here’s how we think United will line-up against Ipswich:

De Gea

Valencia – McNair – Rojo – Blind

Carrick – Herrera

Pereira – Rooney – Young
