Manchester United vs Hull City: Match Preview And Prediction

Manchester United take on Hull City on Tuesday night in the first leg of their EFL Cup semi-final at Old Trafford. Jose Mourinho has enjoyed great success in the League Cup winning it on 3 occasions in the past with Chelsea. In fact it was his first trophy win in England when he won it back in the 2004-05 season. Jose will be hoping he can do the same thing again and win it in his first season in charge at United.

The Red-Devils come into the match on the back of a 4-0 win over Reading in the FA Cup and are now competing for 4 trophies. Looking at recent history United are unbeaten in their last 12 matches against Hull City having won 11 matches and drawn just 1 match in all competitions. Hull City come into the game on the back of a victory too having won their first game under new manager Marco Silva who replaced Mike Phelan last week. Hull beat Swansea City 2-0 in their FA Cup third round game and are looking to take advantage of the fresh impetus the new manager has provided. This is the first time Hull City have played in the League Cup semi-final and will be hoping to move into the final to face the winner of Liverpool or Southampton.

Hull have only won once in their history at Old Trafford vs United and that was way back in 1952 when they beat the Red-Devils in the FA Cup 2-0. United have made it through to the final of the League Cup on 8 of the 10 semi-final appearances they have made. If Jose Mourinho does win the EFL Cup this season it will tie him on 4 wins with Sir Alex Ferguson.

So United are certainly in top form having won their past 8 matches in a row and we expect Jose Mourinho to send out a very strong side to face his compatriot Marco Silva who has won silverware at previous clubs Sporting Lisbon and Olympiakos. We think United will come out on top by a 3-1 scoreline as Jose will continue his success in a competition he clearly enjoys. It will give United a big boost as they can look forward to winning the second leg and then they will have a Wembley final to look forward to.
