Manchester United will want to improve on their last gasp 1-0 win over Young Boys in the Champions League on Tuesday.

Marouane Fellaini’s 91st winner meant that they sealed qualification for the knockout rounds but manager Jose Mourinho was left frustrated by the nature of their performance.

In contrast, Southampton have been performing better than their results suggest in recent weeks. They lost 3-2 to strugglers Fulham last weekend despite controlling the game, and lost in the Carabao Cup to Leicester on penalties in midweek, after having a goal ruled out by VAR.

Former United striker Mark Hughes is now under huge pressure with his side having failed to win at St Mary’s this season, and United will want to take advantage of the Saints’ poor home form.

With regards to injuries, the Red Devils will be without Victor Lindelof. The centre-back will be missing for at least a few weeks with a muscular injury. Matteo Darmian and Marcos Rojo are also both doubts after missing the game against Young Boys, while Diogo Dalot still hasn’t returned to the matchday squad despite taking part in training over the last 10 days.

For Southampton, striker Danny Ings remains a doubt due to a hamstring problem, while fellow forward Shane Long (ankle) and Sam Gallagher (hamstring) are also sidelined. Ryan Bertrand will return after being suspended against Fulham.
