REPORT: United Planning ‘Shock Move’ For £70M Rated Euro 2024 Star

Manchester United are interested in signing Paris Saint-Germain attacking midfielder Xavi Simons, according to The Sun.

The English tabloid claim the Red Devils are plotting a “shock move” for the Netherlands international, who scored against England during their 2-1 defeat to the Three Lions in the Euro 2024 semi-final tie earlier this week.

Simons has been heavily linked with a whole host of Premier League teams over the past few months, including Liverpool, Manchester City, Arsenal and Chelsea.

Up until recently, though, it had been assumed that he would join Bayern Munich or return to RB Leipzig (where he spent last season on loan), but The Sun claim that Erik ten Hag’s side could muscle in on negotiations.

Simons is keen on leaving Paris

It is believed that the Dutchman is open to offers from other teams this summer. Despite being a PSG player, he has never been a part of their first-team plans.

However, the Ligue One champions remain keen on loaning him out, rather than letting him leave on a permanent basis. It may cost United upwards of £70m to secure his services, which may prove to be too much.

United could recruit two other Dutch players

While an approach for Simons does seem unlikely, considering the costs involved, the Red Devils may snap up two of his international teammates over the coming days.

Joshua Zirkzee’s move for Bologna is expected to be made official imminently, after the striker underwent a medical, while a deal for Bayern Munich’s Matthijs de Ligt is still being worked on.

If the club are to bring in more additions before the transfer window closes, they may need to free up funds through potential sales. Getting the likes of Mason Greenwood and Jadon Sancho off the books may now become the priority.
