RB Leipzig are “open” to offloading Manchester United target Xavi Simons at the end of the season despite only having just signed him, according to Bild reporter Christian Falk.
The Bundesliga side have paid €50m (£42m) up front for the Netherlands international (with another €30m/£25m due in add-ons), having turned his loan from Paris Saint-Germain into a permanent deal.
However, Falk believes that Leipzig are keen to make a quick profit on Simons, and they could sanction his departure if they receive a fee between €70m (£58.5m) and €80m (£67m) this summer.
The Red Devils, Manchester City and Liverpool are said to be the three clubs likeliest to make an approach for the 21-year-old.
Is Simons worth the money?
Although the forward is undoubtedly a very talented player, he has spent a large chunk of this campaign on the sidelines with an ankle injury. It means he has only made 11 league appearances for Leipzig.
However, if Simons does stay fit until the summer, and he produces some standout performances for his club, teams (including the Red Devils) will be lining up to sign him.
Why do United want the forward?
Simons would be a perfect fit for Ruben Amorim’s front three. The Portuguese coach prefers to have two No.10s either side of a main striker.
It is a role that the Leipzig star is ideally suited for. He is an attacking midfielder by trade but he can also be deployed on the left wing or through the middle if required.
Of course, any approach for the Dutchman probably depends on departures. Getting Marcus Rashford off the club’s books either this month or at the end of the season would help raise the funds needed to go after Simons.
