Romano Reveals When 20 Goal Striker Could Make Decision On £62M United Transfer

Manchester United may have to wait a couple of months before they hear whether Victor Osimhen is interested in making a move to Old Trafford, according to journalist Fabrizio Romano.

Writing in his column for GiveMeSport, Romano said that “meetings” about the Nigerian international’s future won’t take place until April at the very earliest.

Osimhen is keen to focus on his football at Galatasaray until the end of the season and, even though he is expected to leave Napoli on a permanent basis this summer, his priority is to perform well during his loan spell in Turkey. He scored his 20th goal of the campaign on Thursday night during a 2-2 draw against AZ Alkmaar in the Europa League.

Romano claims that United are keeping tabs on Osimhen although he does also emphasise that reports suggesting scouts have watched him in action recently are “wide of the mark.”

Finances will determine whether United buy the forward

Osimhen has a release clause in his contract worth between €75m (£62m) and €80m (£66m) and that is the figure that Napoli will hold out for.

Ruben Amorim’s side do have to be mindful about the Premier League’s Profit and Sustainability rules so it remains to be seen whether the club do have the resources to pay the buyout fee upfront.

Osimhen has several suitors

While Chelsea made a concerted effort to snap up the 26-year-old on loan back in the summer, the Blues may not be United’s main rival for his signature at the end of the season.

It looks like Saudi Pro League side Al Ahli could revive their interest in Osimhen, having initially discussed a move last August. They would not have an issue paying the striker’s release clause or meeting his wage demands.
