Manchester United legend Rio Ferdinand says that he would ask Paul Pogba to come back to the club.
The 31-year-old is currently a free agent, having left Juventus last year following a drugs ban. However, he has permission to train before his suspension is lifted next month. Ferdinand would like to see the midfielder at Carrington and he wouldn’t rule out the prospect of handing the player a contract:
“I’d say to Pogba, ‘Come in and train with us, let me see what you’ve got’. I’d do that. I would have done that already. Come in and get fit, but I’d also have a look (at him).”
It should be pointed out that the Frenchman has not played a competitive match since September 2023.
What is the likelihood of Pogba returning to Old Trafford?
Speaking about the World Cup winner last month, journalist Fabrizio Romano played down the prospect of the player returning to the Premier League.
He confirmed that INEOS and head coach Ruben Amorim are not considering recruiting players like Pogba, with the focus on bringing in “younger” talent.
There has reportedly been contact with clubs in the United States and Brazil but, so far, he has not found a new team.
United do lack creativity in the middle of the park
With the exception of captain Bruno Fernandes and Christian Eriksen, there isn’t really anyone in Ruben Amorim’s squad who is really capable of unlocking a defence.
For that reason, you can understand why Ferdinand would be keen on bringing Pogba back for a third spell at the club.
Based on what has been said, though, it does like the Red Devils and the player himself are not even considering the possibility at the moment.
