Manchester United and Arsenal will have to pay around £10m for Columbus Crew goalkeeper Patrick Schulte, according to Transfermarkt.us.

Multiple reports in the UK have mentioned Arsenal’s interest but the website have confirmed that United and Wolves are also keeping close tabs on the 23-year-old.

It is believed that the Red Devils are considering Schulte as a potential replacement for current no.2 Altay Bayindir.

The Turkish international only moved from Fenerbahce at the start of the season but Transfermarkt claim that Andre Onana’s understudy “could leave the club for more playing time”.

Why is Schulte’s asking price so high?

The American international’s contract is set to expire in December, but Columbus Crew do have an option to extend it for a further twelve months, allowing them to demand a higher price tag for the keeper.

The MLS side will reportedly cite two other transfers to justify their valuation. Chelsea paid €14m for Djordje Petrovic who was recruited from New England Revolution last summer. The Blues also shelled out €9m on Chicago Fire’s Gabriel Slonina a year before. It is thought that Columbus want a fee between those two figures for Schulte.

Bayindir hasn’t been given any opportunities since joining United

It is not a surprise that United’s backup keeper is unhappy. Since moving to Old Trafford, the 25-year-old has played just once. That match was the 4-2 win over Newport County in the FA Cup back in January when Onana was away at the African Cup of Nations.

The fact that he hasn’t been handed the gloves for cup competitions is unusual. Most Premier League clubs tend to give their understudies appearances in the early rounds of the Carabao Cup.

For whatever reason, Erik ten Hag has decided to keep Onana in goal whenever he has been available for selection and that will consequently lead to Bayindir being sold in the coming months.
