United Have Sent Scouts To Watch £30M Rated Wingback ‘Numerous Times’ But They Face Battle With 4 Other PL Teams

Manchester United are interested in signing Lecce wingback Patrick Dorgu, according to TBRFootball.

The Red Devils are reportedly “huge admirers” of the Danish international and they have sent scouts “numerous times” to watch him in action.

Dorgu would be an excellent fit for Ruben Amorim‘s 3-4-3 system. He has been deployed as a fullback and winger on both flanks by Lecce since making his senior debut at the start of last season.

At the moment, Amorim has had to convert wingers such as Amad Diallo and fullbacks to play in the two wingback positions but United’s recruitment department will be aiming to sign some specialists in the next couple of transfer windows.

Dorgu is being watched by other Premier League clubs

TBRFootball report that the likes of Chelsea, Liverpool, Manchester City and Tottenham are also keeping close tabs on the 20-year-old’s progress.

United will be most wary of competition from Chelsea with Dorgu having previously expressed an interest in playing for the Blues, having grown up as a supporter of the London club.

However, the biggest obstacle that the Red Devils could face is persuading Lecce to sell the youngster, especially if they want to snap him up in January.

United may have to pay a sizeable sum for the player

Speaking about Dorgu’s future last week, Lecce sporting director Pantaleo Corvino said he would not let the defender leave before the end of the season:

“Dorgu is a potential champion. Correction: he is a champion. Left or right winger, he runs like three players and can find the goal. He has an engine that no one else has.”

“A player like him has admirers, of course, and there are plenty of them, even abroad. But Dorgu will stay here, and then we’ll talk about it in the summer, because his destiny is already set – his future belongs to him.”

Corvino may just be playing hardball, though, with some reports suggesting that Dorgu could be let go if Lecce receive a fee in the region of £25m to £30m.
