Manchester United are weighing up a potential move for Lecce wingback Patrick Dorgu, according to journalist Fabrizio Romano.
Speaking on his YouTube channel, Romano said that the Red Devils have joined two Premier League rivals in pursuing the Denmark international:
“Man United have added Patrick Dorgu to the list of players they are following at left wingback – playing for the Danish national team, playing for Lecce – doing very well.”
“He’s a player who’s been on the list of Tottenham and Chelsea. Chelsea [wanted him] for Strasbourg last summer. Then, Lecce didn’t want to sell the player, now, Man United are monitoring him. Lecce will not make it easy in January.”
What do fans need to know about Dorgu?
The 20-year-old came through FC Nordsjaelland’s academy before making the move to Lecce (initially on loan) in the summer of 2022.
Dorgu had to wait until the start of last season to make his senior debut but he quickly established himself as a regular starter in Lecce’s first team.
The Dane is very versatile. He can be deployed on either flank, having played both as a left-back and right-winger. He seems to be ideally suited for Ruben Amorim’s 3-4-3 system.
United have 3 targets for the left-wing back position
In addition to Dorgu, Romano also revealed that the Red Devils are weighing up moves for two other players, but they could be more difficult to sign:
“Man United want Milos Kerkez as a target, Nuno Mendes is a dream target – very difficult”
Bournemouth are reportedly demanding in excess of £40m for Kerkez, while PSG’s Mendes may only be available at the end of the season for around £50m.
Dorgu’s asking price is said to be lower (approximately £25m) so the Red Devils would probably have more luck trying to secure his signature this month.
