United Will Have The Chance To Sign “Special Player” This Summer As Price Of New Release Clause Is Revealed

Manchester United transfer target Matheus Cunha has signed a new contract that includes a release clause which can be triggered at the end of the season, according to reports.

The Brazilian put pen to paper on a new deal at the weekend, keeping him at Molineux until the end of the 2028/29 season.

However, the Daily Mail claim that it includes a clause which allows Cunha to leave this summer if a team pays £62.5m.

That will be a major boost for the Red Devils who were not in a position financially to make a bid for the 25-year-old this month due to Premier League Profit and Sustainability rules.

Cunha has been described as a “special player”

The forward has been in excellent form for Wolves this season, having scored 11 goals in 23 league appearances. Speaking recently about the striker’s abilities, his manager Vitor Pereira said:

“He knows in the future he can play for the best teams in England, but he’s committed with us. He has the conscience that it is very important if he leaves, to leave the club in the Premier League.”

“He has this quality. He is a special player. He has the quality to get the ball and create a goal alone.”

United will have competition for his signature

With rumours circling that Cunha could leave Wolves this month, he was linked with moves to several Premier League clubs.

In addition to Ruben Amorim’s side, Arsenal, Chelsea, Nottingham Forest and Tottenham were all mentioned as potential destinations. It is not known how many of these teams will retain their interest in the Brazilian international but the existence of a buyout clause will tempt many into making an approach.

United have been keeping an eye on Cunha for quite some time but it remains to be seen whether they will continue their pursuit. Other forward targets may end up higher on the list by the summer.
