Manchester United are unlikely to pursue a move for Matheus Cunha this month, according to reports.
The Wolves forward has been on the club’s radar for quite some time but GiveMeSport claim any attempt to sign him in January would be “extremely difficult” due to financial constraints.
It is believed that the Red Devils would need to raise significant funds through player sales to finance a bid for Cunha. Reports suggest that the striker could cost around £80m.
For that reason, Ruben Amorim’s team would prefer to make a move for the Brazilian at the end of the season when they would have more room for manoeuvre.
Interest from Premier League rivals may scupper United’s plans
GiveMeSport report that both Arsenal and Nottingham Forest “have made progress in their attempts” to sign the player this month.
Cunha was all set to sign a new contract but the 25-year-old has opted to delay his decision, prompting more speculation about his future at Molineux.
Wolves are not happy about Cunha’s behaviour
When new head coach Vitor Pereira first arrived at the club last month, he described his No.10 as a “special player”.
Ironically, those comments came after Cunha scored and provided an assist in Wolves’ 2-0 win over United. Since then, the forward’s output has noticeably dropped.
He was substituted at half-time during the 2-2 draw against Tottenham and he was then left on the bench for the 3-0 defeat to Newcastle.
Cunha played the full 90 minutes against Chelsea on Monday night but he was criticised by Pereira for his poor attitude following the 3-1 defeat. All the signs point towards him moving clubs before the transfer window closes but it doesn’t look like he will be making the switch to Old Trafford.
