Manchester United attacker Marcus Rashford could be in line to leave Manchester United as part of a swap deal with Napoli striker Victor Osimhen.
Reports have emerged suggesting that United could try to seek a deal with the Italian club who are reportedly keen on Rashford.
The England international could be in line to leave after he was left out of Ruben Amorim‘s first-team squad on several occasions, forcing him to admit that he wants a ‘new challenge’.
According to TalkSport, Napoli are keen to sign Rashford and could be prepared to offer Osimhen, who is on loan at Galatasaray, in return.
The Nigeria international has generated transfer interest from several Premier League teams, including Chelsea, Arsenal, United and Nottingham Forest.
However, as he was unable to find a transfer in the summer, he went on loan to Galatasaray. Osimhen has since scored nine goals in 11 matches for the Turkish side.
Whereas Rashford’s form hasn’t been as impressive. The 27-year-old has scored four goals in 15 Premier League games for the Red Devils.
Rashford could join two former United teammates at Napoli
One aspect of any swap deal that could tempt Rashford to leave for Napoli, is that two of his former teammates are both currently there under Antonio Conte.
Romelu Lukaku moved from Chelsea after he had been at United with Rashford for two years between 2017 and 2019.
Midfielder Scott McTominay is also now at Napoli after moving in the summer following reports that he was no longer in Erik Ten Hag’s plans.
Both have hit form under Conte at Napoli and if Rashford was to ask about the move to either McTominay or Lukaku, they could be a possible draw for the English striker to make the move.
How would a swap deal between Rashford and Osimhen work?
Victor Osimhen has a £62m release clause attached to his contract at Napoli, meaning that United may have to take that as his value fee during negotiations.
Rashford is currently valued at around £46m according to TransferMarkt, so United would have to add on an extra fee in order to make the deal happen, should they want to bring Osimhen to Old Trafford.
It would help to solve Amorim’s issue of not having a consistent goal scorer, as his current strikers Rasmus Hojlund (two goals), and Joshua Zirkzee (three goals) have struggled so far this year.
