AC Milan are expected to begin discussions with Manchester United “in the next few days” about signing Marcus Rashford, according to reports in Italy.
Napoli have been tipped as a potential destination for the player but Sky Sport Italia say Milan are poised to enter the mix as well.
Rashford’s availability on loan presents an opportunity for the Rossoneri, who are keen to explore whether a move is possible.
A lot will depend on the finances involved, and it’s likely that the Red Devils would have to accept some compromises if they want to offload the 27-year-old to the San Siro.
Rashford’s wages are the biggest obstacle
Sky claim that the England international’s €14m a year salary would be the most significant hurdle to overcome in negotiations.
United were hoping to find a way of removing Rashford from the wage bill entirely but Milan would only be able to pay a portion of his current earnings.
That is why the Serie A side will start conversations soon to discover whether a deal is realistic or not.
Napoli still seems the most likely destination for the United forward
While Milan have entered strongly into the conversation, the salary issue may end up being a big barrier.
In contrast, their competitors Napoli do have an ace up their sleeve. If Victor Osimhen is included in a swap deal, there is a good chance that they can agree personal terms with Rashford.
Osimhen is currently earning £240,000 per week (£158,000 of which is being paid by Galatasaray at the moment) and, if they can get the Nigerian off their books, there would be the finances available to bring in Rashford. It is definitely a situation to keep an eye on over the coming days.
