Manchester United will ask Paris Saint-Germain whether they are open to loaning out Manuel Ugarte, according to GiveMeSport.
Depending on what report you read, the Red Devils are expected to pay between €62m (£52m) and €70m (£59m) for Lille’s Leny Yoro leaving no money left for additional signings, without players being sold first.
Talks with Ugarte’s representatives have already taken place but it had been reported that PSG would want at least £50m for the midfielder.
With United currently unable to afford that sort of fee, GiveMeSport believe an enquiry will be made to ascertain PSG’s willingness to loan out the Uruguayan international.
A similar deal to Amrabat?
To get around the Premier League’s Profit and Sustainability rules last summer, an agreement was reached with Fiorentina whereby United would pay a substantial loan fee for Sofyan Amrabat, with a purchase clause.
Whether a similar deal could be hashed out for Ugarte, it remains to be seen. There is a chance that PSG would be open to such an arrangement if it is an obligation to buy at the end of the season. It would effectively be a transfer, with the money being taken out in the next accounting year instead.
United are looking to sell several players
Erik ten Hag’s side have begun to rake in sum cash through player sales, with Mason Greenwood expected to seal his €30m (£25m) switch to Marseille very soon, but more are likely to leave Old Trafford over the coming days and weeks.
Victor Lindelof will be sold if the right offer is received. The likes of Aaron Wan-Bissaka and Christian Eriksen are in the same boat. Harry Maguire, Casemiro and Scott McTominay may also depart under the right circumstances. There is less certainty about Jadon Sancho, though, now he has been reintegrated into the first-team squad.
