Manchester United have reached an “agreement in principle” with Paris Saint-Germain to sign Manuel Ugarte, according to Sky Sports reporter Dharmesh Sheth.
The journalist claims that the Red Devils will pay roughly £50m for the Uruguayan international but there are still discussions “ongoing” regarding the payment structure.
Ugarte agreed personal terms with United several weeks ago but the move has been held up due to the fact that Erik ten Hag’s side did not have the finances to match PSG’s demands.
That could now change with Scott McTominay poised to leave Old Trafford over the coming days.
What is the situation with McTominay?
The Athletic confirmed at the weekend that Napoli have agreed a fee worth €30m (£25.4m) for McTominay, with a sell-on clause also set to be included.
It is expected that the money from the Scottish international’s sale will then be reinvested into snapping up Ugarte.
Up until recently, negotiations with PSG had centred around a loan deal with an obligation to buy at the end of the season, but it appears the midfielder could seal a permanent move instead.
Ugarte didn’t even make the squad for PSG’s 6-0 win over Montpellier on Friday night, which suggests that his future lies away from the Parc des Princes.
United could offload other players before the transfer window closes
McTominay is one of several players who may join new teams ahead of the transfer deadline later this week. Jadon Sancho was not in the matchday squad for the second game in a row against Brighton on Saturday.
The winger is being courted by Juventus, while there are rumours that Chelsea could make a move for him as well. Hannibal Mejbri may also leave with Championship pair Burnley and Leeds pursuing his signature.
