“Real Change” – Romano Says There Has Been A Big Development In United’s Pursuit Of £51M Rated Midfielder

Paris Saint-Germain midfielder Manuel Ugarte is now “pushing like crazy” to join Manchester United, according to journalist Fabrizio Romano.

The Uruguayan international agreed personal terms with the Red Devils several weeks ago but PSG won’t lower their €60m (£51m) asking price, leading to a stalemate in negotiations. Speaking on Playback about Ugarte’s situation, Romano said that the player has lost patience over the past few days, and he is now playing an active role in forcing through a move to Old Trafford:

“Man United and Paris Saint-Germain have been in touch almost the whole summer to discuss this Manuel Ugarte story. The real change of the last two or three days is that Manuel Ugarte has started pushing like crazy to go to Manchester United. What I’m hearing is that Ugarte is really tired of the situation.”

“It’s almost two months of waiting for Manchester United. Tired, not with Man United, but tired with PSG, he wants to go. He wants to have this solution. He wants the club to find the way, and he wants to go to Manchester United. Now it’s obviously up to the clubs to find a way.”

Ugarte is not in PSG’s plans

One of the main reasons that the 23-year-old is pressing so hard for a transfer to United is because he knows he won’t get much game time if he stays in France this summer.

Ugarte’s current manager Luis Enrique is not the biggest fan and the player didn’t even make the matchday squad for PSG’s 4-1 win against Le Harve on Friday night.

How can United resolve the situation?

A swap deal involving Jadon Sancho is one potential option but, if that’s not on the cards, then the Red Devils will need to sell someone in order to meet PSG’s demands. Scott McTominay would be a prime candidate. Fulham have withdrawn from the race to sign the Scottish international, after seeing multiple bids rejected, but Serie A side Napoli have also been linked with the player.

Alternatively, there have been suggestions that a loan deal for Ugarte, with an obligation to buy next summer, could be negotiated, so we shall see which avenue United explore.
