Manchester United Backed By Ex-Arsenal And Chelsea Star After Dropping Manuel Ugarte Pursuit

Former Arsenal and Chelsea midfielder Emmanuel Petit says that Manchester United have dodged a bullet by deciding not to pursue PSG’s Manuel Ugarte.

The Red Devils decided to look elsewhere after PSG demanded a fee of between £50m and £60m for his signature. United will now begin to look for alternative midfielders to add before the end of the transfer window.

Speaking to Gambling Zone, Emmanuel Petit says that it was the right decision by United. He said: “I like Manuel Ugarte but I think he’s limited. I think he has the quality to play in the Premier League, but I would question if he was what Erik ten Hag is looking for in a holding midfielder.

“He is a player with a lot of limitations with the ball and with the football that Manchester United are trying to play, with ten Hag’s philosophy, Ugarte doesn’t have the required technical ability.”

Manchester United and PSG fail to agree terms

According to the Athletic, Manchester United refused to pay the French side’s asking price of over £50 million for the Uruguayan. They had previously discussed a loan move which never came to fruition.

Furthermore, a swap deal with Jadon Sancho was also on the cards.

Who could Erik Ten Hag pursue?

As the Red Devils are now looking at alternative options, several names have been touted for Erik Ten Hag’s team to go after. Emmanuel Petit believes that United needs a holding midfielder who has a more technically gifted set of skills.

United already have Casemiro, however, he had a down year last season and has been struggling to keep pace in the Premier League as of late.
