Manchester United are targeting Bayern Munich winger Leroy Sane and RB Leipzig striker Benjamin Sesko, according to Bild journalist Christian Falk.
Writing in his Daily Briefing column, Falk said that both forwards are on the Manchester club’s radar ahead of the summer transfer window:
“I’ve heard Manchester United are also knocking at his [Sane’s] door. Many people think he won’t go back to Manchester, but United is a very serious option for him.”
“However, I think he first wants to show that he can do it at Bayern Munich. Bayern, on their part, don’t want to pay him €20m again… The Red Devils are also interested in another Bayern Munich target in Benjamin Sesko (so you see the [Bundesliga] club is always competing with the Premier League).”
What is the situation with Sane?
The German international is out of contract at the end of the season and he is reportedly unwilling to take a 25% pay cut, which opens the door for the Red Devils to snap him up on a free transfer. As mentioned by Falk, he is currently earning €20m a year (around £384,000 a week).
However, there will likely be competition from Arsenal and (potentially) Newcastle for the ex-Manchester City player if he does decide to leave the Allianz Arena.
United have a longstanding interest in Sesko
The Red Devils originally targeted the Slovenian striker when he was at Red Bull Salzburg but he opted to join Leipzig instead at the start of last season.
Sesko was also the subject of interest from Arsenal and Chelsea back in June. Both London clubs were willing to pay his €65m (£55m) release clause but he decided to remain in Germany and sign a new contract. It isn’t known whether he is now open to a switch to the Premier League.
