Manchester United Set To Announce Signing Of £52 Million Defender Beating Out Liverpool And Real

Manchester United are set to announce to signing of 18-year-old Leny Yoro from Lille FC in the next 24 hours.

Reports suggest that United is ready to announce the signing after a £52 million fee was agreed between the Red Devils and Lille FC.

Erik Ten Hag’s side managed to stave off Liverpool plus Real Madrid who were also in the hunt for Yoro and were reportedly his preferred destination.

Announcement expected ‘within the next 24 hours’

Speaking to GiveMeSport, Sky Sports reported Dharmesh Sheth said: “As we’re speaking right now, this is a real coup for Manchester United.

“All the signs were pointing toward him wanting to wait for Real Madrid. But United agreed with Lille to a £50m-plus deal. They were allowed to talk to Yoro and his representatives, and in those talks, they convinced him. They convinced him of the project. They convinced him of what he was going to do with that project.

“He’s had his medical, he’ll formally sign that contract at some point today, we think, and we’re expecting a formal announcement within the next 24 hours, maybe even sooner.”

How will Leny Yoro fit in at Manchester United?

Yoro seems to be the replacement for Raphael Varane who left as a free agent at the end of the last season. The 18-year-old Frenchman is touted to be one of the next top centre-back prospects so Manchester United has a long-term starter at the position.

He will likely slot alongside a combination of Lisandro Martinez, Jonny Evans and Harry Maguire should United not add another centre-back this summer.

However, they are also reportedly wanting to get a deal for Bayern Munich man Matthis De Ligt across the line which could provide Ten Hag with the other long-term centre-back option alongside Yoro.
