Manchester United have “enquired” about the availability of Khvicha Kvaratskhelia in discussions with Napoli over a swap deal for Marcus Rashford, according to reports.
It was initially claimed that United were hoping for an exchange between Rashford and Victor Osimhen but TEAMtalk believe that Kvaratskhelia’s name also came up in conversation.
The Georgian international would be a like-for-like replacement for Rashford so it does make sense that they would be keen on taking him to Old Trafford.
It has also been reported the negotiations between Kvaratskhelia and Napoli over a new contract have broken down, which would suggest that the player would be keen on leaving the Serie A side.
However, TEAMtalk have said that any deal for the 23-year-old during the January transfer window is unlikely.
Kvaratskhelia is not expected to be a target next summer
With the Red Devils keen to add numbers upfront this month, it is believed that Napoli’s decision to keep hold of Kvaratskhelia means a move to Manchester is pretty much dead.
The club are not expected to revive their interest at the end of the season, although other Premier League sides (such as Liverpool) are still monitoring his situation.
United could now focus on Osimhen
Napoli are much more open to letting the Nigerian international go than his teammate. Relations between the player and his parent club are said to have completely broken down following the failure of his move to Chelsea last summer.
While a new contract was signed, the deal was made simply to make it easier for Osimhen to leave in the future. In addition to the break clause in his loan deal with Galatasaray, there is a buyout fee which means clubs can sign him on a permanent basis for €75m (£62m) this month. Of course, if Rashford is included in United’s offer, it could end up being a straight swap with no cash involved.
