Manchester United are keeping close tabs on Borussia Dortmund forward Karim Adeyemi, according to TEAMtalk.
The German international has had a strong start to the season, scoring 2 goals and providing 2 assists in his first 4 appearances, and he is reportedly “among a number of targets” that sporting director Dan Ashworth is looking at.
Adeyemi was actually close to leaving Dortmund during the summer transfer window, but a move to Juventus collapsed as the two teams could not agree a transfer fee.
Dortmund were said to be demanding €50m (£42m) for the 22-year-old but Juve were not prepared to pay that much for the player. TEAMtalk claim his asking price could be even higher now.
Why do United want the forward?
Adeyemi is a left-footed winger, who can also be deployed as a striker. Considering Antony’s poor form, it is believed that he could be a potential replacement for the Brazilian international.
While Antony did get on the scoresheet from the penalty spot during the 7-0 win over Barnsley in the Carabao Cup on Tuesday evening, his long-term future at Old Trafford is in serious doubt.
Manager Erik ten Hag has only given him one minute of action in the Premier League so far this season.
Other Premier League clubs are also pursuing Adeyemi
Liverpool do have a longstanding interest in the German, having even considered an approach before he joined Dortmund in 2022. However, it has been subsequently reported that the Reds are no longer looking to sign him.
United’s most likely rival for Adeyemi (other than Juve), is expected to be Newcastle. TEAMtalk say that he is a “genuine” target for the Magpies. Manager Eddie Howe is on the lookout for a new right-winger having failed to secure the signature of Michael Olise this summer.
