Manchester United could be tempted to make a move for Bayern Munich’s Harry Kane following reports from Germany about a release clause in his contract.
Sport Bild (via talkSPORT) claim that the England captain has a buyout fee that is worth €65m (£54.1m) which can be paid at the end of this season.
The clause has reportedly dropped by €15m (£12.5m), with clubs able to sign Kane for €80m (£66.6m) during the January transfer window.
Considering the 31-year-old’s outstanding record in English football (he has scored 213 Premier League goals), clubs such as United may be keen to bring him back.
United have been short of goals
Rasmus Hojlund and Joshua Zirkzee have found the back of the net just 5 times between them in the league so far this season and there is an argument to say that the pair could do with having a more experienced player like Kane to learn from.
If Kane was open to leaving Bayern this summer, though, he would probably have other suitors as well. Chelsea are also said to be looking for a new No.9, while a return to Tottenham could not be ruled out either.
Kane is no longer in his prime
While the forward continues to score goals for fun in the Bundesliga, his recent scoring record in the Champions League is nothing to write home about. After scoring 4 times against Dinamo Zagreb in the opening group game, he only managed to score 2 more in his next 6 appearances. He also struggled whilst playing for England at last year’s European Championships.
With Kane turning 32 this summer, United may believe that the club’s money would be better spent on recruiting a younger striker who would be the cornerstone of their attack for many years to come.
