Manchester United will consider “hijacking” Liverpool’s move for Valencia goalkeeper Giorgi Mamardashvili but only if they can offload Jadon Sancho, according to The Mirror.
The English tabloid claims that the Red Devils are “long-term admirers” of the Georgian international and they would be interested in bringing him to Old Trafford under the right circumstances.
Mamardashvili is believed to have already agreed personal terms with Liverpool but the deal is being held up by a disagreement on the transfer fee.
Valencia are keen to get at least €40m (£34m) for the 23-year-old but the Reds only want to go as high as £30m including add-ons.
It means the door has been left ajar for United to swoop in if they have the funds to match Mamardashvili’s asking price.
What do United fans need to know about Mamardashvili?
The Georgian came through Dinamo Tbilisi’s academy, going on three loan spells, including one to Valencia, before joining the Spanish club on a permanent basis in the 2022 January transfer window.
Mamardashvili has been a regular starter over the past two and a half years in La Liga but he came to the attention of the wider public with his excellent performances for his country at Euro 2024 earlier this summer.
What is the situation with Sancho?
The 24-year-old wasn’t included in the matchday squad for the 1-0 win over Fulham on Friday night. However, manager Erik ten Hag did confirm after the match that his absence was due to an ear infection, rather than anything related to a potential transfer.
Sancho has managed to mend bridges with ten Hag, having been reintegrated into the first-team squad during pre-season, but there is still a feeling that he could leave Manchester before August 30th.
Chelsea have been credited with an interest in the England international recently, although many believe that PSG are favourites for his signature, having already held talks with his agent.
