Manchester United are looking to secure the services of Sporting Lisbon wingback Geovany Quenda for less than £50m, according to journalist Ben Jacobs.
The teenager is keen to link up with his former manager Ruben Amorim but Jacobs claims that the Red Devils are hoping to get a deal done for around £33m.
That is a sizeable gap in the two clubs’ valuations of the player, and fans on X are debating whether United should go all in to secure Quenda’s services:
Quenda looks tasty, but United gotta pay up for that Sporting spice!

Has to get these deals done now and early with them in place and time to make the deal for the summer!
Makes sense but needs to be done and get the rest done

Like signing top young talent but they badly need some experience in cm and cf positions to go with youth.

Would be a significant signing
Hope we get a really good deal tho

This would be a good signing an actual player that will play for the badge instead of having these waste of spaces.

Not so sure he is left footed but plays on the right I think this sort of thing affects the balance. If they switch him to left how does that affect Dorgu and Leon.

Quenda would play at right wingback
After recruiting Patrick Dorgu from Lecce in January, the next step is to find a player who can complement him on the opposite flank.
Quenda does look like a logical choice. He is young and well-versed in Amorim’s 3-4-3 system. Despite only being 17, he would also be an upgrade on Diogo Dalot in terms of his threat in the final third of the pitch.
For Sporting this season, the Portuguese Under 21 international has scored 2 goals and contributed 7 assists in 38 appearances.
United have made mistakes by signing players from a manager’s former club
It’s fair to say that, following Erik ten Hag who recruited several of his former players, supporters will be keen for his successor not to repeat the same errors.
Quenda is, though, a very young player. Even if the signing doesn’t work out, he would still have plenty of resale value, unlike some of those brought in by ten Hag.
