Manchester United are expected to sign Geovany Quenda from Sporting Lisbon this summer, according to reports in Portugal.
One of the country’s tabloids A BOLA has made the bold claim that the Red Devils have “already snapped up” the teenager with the transfer set to take place at the end of the season.
They say that, while a final fee is yet to be determined, an offer of around €60m (£50m) is likely to be enough to secure Quenda’s signature.
It may not necessarily be all paid up front, with performance-related add-ons and sell-on clauses also potentially being part of the deal, but there is confidence that the wingback will make the switch to Old Trafford.
United have been “monitoring” the player
Speaking all the way back in November, journalist Fabrizio Romano reported that the Red Devils were keeping a close eye on the 17-year-old.
Quenda had already been linked prior to Romano’s report, with Liverpool, Manchester City and Juventus also mentioned as suitors, but Romano confirmed that United were “monitoring” his situation.
Amorim has kept to his word
Speaking prior to his appointment at United, Ruben Amorim said he had told Sporting president Frederico Varandas that he would not poach any of his former players in January:
“I will not sign any Sporting player at Man United in January… then, what happens in the summer I don’t know. Sporting players are good players. We will see what happens…”
Based on A BOLA‘s report, Amorim has been good to his word but it appears Quenda could be on his way to join his former boss at the end of the campaign. Of course, this story has not been backed up by more respected sources in the UK but it is a transfer to keep an eye on.
