Manchester United Set To Battle With Chelsea And Barcelona For £42M-Rated Midfielder

Manchester United are reportedly keen on signing Barcelona midfielder Fermin Lopez in the summer transfer window.

The Red Devils will be keen to strengthen their squad in the summer and add some players who suit Ruben Amorim‘s very specific style of football.

Reports in January emerged that they may have to sell the likes of Kobbie Mainoo and Alejandro Garnacho in order to fund transfer moves with PSR rules in the summer.

Furthermore, midfielder Christian Eriksen’s contract is set to expire in the summer, meaning that Amorim will likely want to bring in a replacement for the Danish international.

According to new reports Barcelona midfielder Fermin Lopez has emerged as a target for Manchester United. Reports in Spain via Football 365 say that Man United would reportedly pay up to £42m for Lopez, which is his estimated transfer market value.

The 21-year-old has made 15 La Liga appearances this season, with three goals and two assists for Hansi Flick’s side. He remains under contract until 2029, but could decide to push for a move away should the promise of regular starting XI football for the Catalan side not improve. Lopez also has two caps for Spain.

Manchester United face competition from Chelsea

It is understood that Barcelona will try their best to keep the 21-year-old in Spain as they want to develop him into a star. But it could be difficult considering the amount of interest in him.

The report adds that Chelsea are also keen on a summer move for Lopez, as they look to add more talent to an already stacked midfield.

However, Kobbie Mainoo remains a priority target for the Blues should he become available, and so Manchester United could replace him with Lopez should they reluctantly sell the England international. Although Lopez plays a slightly more attacking role than Mainoo.
