United Named As Favourites To Sign 51 Cap International Who Could Be Snapped Up For As Little As £17M

Manchester United is the most likely destination for Juventus winger Federico Chiesa, according to journalist Nicolo Ceccarini.

The Italian forward, who has been capped 51 times by his country, has been linked with Napoli and Roma in recent days, but Ceccarini suggests there is a greater chance of him moving to Old Trafford:

“Chiesa? Certainly, respected by [Napoli boss Antonio] Conte, but if there is an Italian team that was really interested it was Roma. But if he didn’t stay at Juventus, I would see him more abroad, perhaps at Manchester United.”

With Chiesa having less than a year left on his contract at Juve, it is believed that the Bianconeri will let him leave this summer, and he could cost as little as €20m (£17m). Whether the Red Devils would be interested in signing him, though, is another matter.

United could have competition for Chiesa

Reports in the Italian media last month named Arsenal, Chelsea and Newcastle as clubs that hold an interest in the 26-year-old, but it must be said that they haven’t made concrete attempts to sign the player.

At this stage, neither have United, and whether that changes before the transfer window shuts may depend on several factors.

A potential swap deal with Sancho?

Juventus are believed to be keen on snapping up Jadon Sancho, and there have been suggestions that Chiesa could be offered in part exchange.

However, Sancho’s departure is no longer as certain as it once was. He has recently been reintegrated into United’s first-team squad, having mended bridges with manager Erik ten Hag after their very public falling out last year. Speaking about the situation yesterday, ten Hag said:

“As we said, we’ve drawn the line. Manchester United needs good players and Jadon is a good player. We have drawn that line and we move on.”
