Juventus are weighing up whether to offer Federico Chiesa in exchange for Manchester United’s Jadon Sancho, according to Tuttosport.
The Italian newspaper claims that the Serie A giants are concerned about Sancho’s wage demands so they are willing to offer up Chiesa at a discounted price.
As the winger has less than twelve months left on his contract, his value has already depreciated to €35m (£30m) but Juve would potentially be open to offloading him to the Red Devils for less than that on one condition.
The Bianconeri want Sancho on loan, with United paying half of his salary, in a similar deal to that agreed with Borussia Dortmund.
Would United accept such a proposal?
On the face of it, the offer that Juventus is proposing doesn’t look particularly attractive. Chiesa’s performances at the European Championships demonstrate that he is a pale shadow of the player who lit up the last tournament three years ago.
World Cup winner Bruno Conti once described the player as “flawless” but his poor recent form doesn’t make him a ‘must-have’ target, even if he is available for a very low fee. The likes of Arsenal, Chelsea, Liverpool and Newcastle are also believed to have turned down the chance to sign him.
In terms of Sancho, United really need to raise funds through selling the player. They are currently limited in what they can do due to the Premier League’s Profit and Sustainability rules and another loan wouldn’t help them at all.
Does Sancho have other suitors?
Borussia Dortmund have seemingly cooled their interest in the 24-year-old, having come to the realisation that United are unwilling to loan him out for a second successive season.
Other than that, there are few other teams who have expressly registered an interest in Sancho. It could be a long wait before the winger knows where he will be playing his football next season.
