Sky Journalist Claims United Raid For £50M Rated Serie A Star Could Come “As Early As” January

Manchester United are weighing up a move for Atalanta midfielder Ederson “as early as” the January transfer window, according to Sky Germany reporter Florian Plettenberg.

Writing on his X account, the journalist said that the Brazilian is “highly valued” by the Red Devils, who are keen to add numbers in the middle of the park.

Ederson caught the eye for Atalanta as the Italian side beat Bayer Leverkusen in last season’s Europa League final.

The 25-year-old has maintained his form this campaign, with his club currently sitting 2nd in Serie A, just one point adrift of leaders Napoli.

Several other Premier League clubs have pursued Ederson

Another respected journalist, Fabrizio Romano, revealed back in the summer that Liverpool had contacted the agent of the midfielder. The Reds ultimately decided against making a bid as they pursued the signature of Real Sociedad’s Martin Zubimendi instead.

Prior to that, the likes of Arsenal and Newcastle were mentioned as suitors in the 2024 January transfer window. More recently, reports in Italy have tipped United’s rivals Manchester City to make a move for Ederson as the Premier League champions look to replace the injured Rodri.

United will have to pay a sizeable sum if they want the player

Atalanta are not exactly keen on selling Ederson, and it is believed that they will demand upwards of €60m (£50m) if Ruben Amorim’s team make an approach in the New Year.

That is a sizeable amount for the Red Devils who are believed to be up against it in terms of complying with the Premier League’s Profit and Sustainability rules.

Paying the fee in instalments could be one workaround, while a loan with an obligation to buy at the end of the season may also be explored.
