A swap deal involving Inter Milan’s Denzel Dumfries and Manchester United’s Aaron Wan-Bissaka is not under serious consideration, according to journalist Fabrizio Romano.
Earlier this week it was reported that such an exchange was on the cards but, writing in his Daily Briefing column, Romano claims it is agent talk:
“Wan-Bissaka would like to move to Italy but at the moment it’s not something advanced or concrete. An idea offered by intermediaries since April/May was a swap deal with Inter’s Denzel Dumfries, but it’s just agents trying to make a deal for two players out of contract in 2025.”
From the sound of things, there is little to no chance that Dumfries, who has been capped 58 times by the Netherlands, will be plying his trade at Old Trafford next season.
Who could United sign instead of Dumfries?
It is believed that the Red Devils have already entered advanced talks to sign fullback Noussair Mazraoui from Bayern Munich.
The Moroccan international’s €19.5m (£16.4m) switch to West Ham collapsed on Friday, but United are now hoping to land the defender, as long as they can offload Wan-Bissaka first.
What is the situation with Wan-Bissaka?
The 26-year-old has already rejected a move to West Ham but, as Romano mentions, he is keen on joining a team in Italy. There are suggestions that he could see out the final year of his contract with the club before leaving on a free transfer.
If that were to happen, it would stop United from raising the money they need to fund a bid for Mazraoui. They will be hoping that Wan-Bissaka has a change of heart and he agrees to leave for another team before the transfer window closes at the end of next month.
