Manchester United are seriously considering a move for Bournemouth defender Dean Huijsen this month, according to reports in Italy.
The Spanish Under 21 international scored the opening goal in the Cherries’ 3-0 win at Old Trafford at the end of December.
TMW claim that the Red Devils very quickly decided to “circle” Huijsen’s “name in red” following that performance and they are now “willing to make an offer” for the player during the January transfer window.
Considering that the 19-year-old only made the switch to the Vitality Stadium back in July, it would be a big surprise if he moved again just six months later, but United’s interest is apparently serious.
How much would it cost to sign Huijsen?
Bournemouth paid Juventus an initial €15.2m to bring him to England and reports suggest that they would want around four times that figure to let him leave now.
€60m (£50m) is a significant sum, especially for a player who has very limited experience at the top level. Huijsen has made just 30 appearances in senior football, including the 15 he has made this season.
United would have competition for the centre-back
Reports over the last week have suggested that European champions Real Madrid are also keeping close tabs on the teenager’s progress.
Chelsea have been mentioned as potential suitors for Huijsen in recent days as well but a lot will depend on who has the funds to meet Bournemouth’s sky-high valuation.
United are not exactly flush with cash at the moment, with the club very much up against it in terms of the Premier League’s Profit and Sustainability rules.
Furthermore, head coach Ruben Amorim may have other priorities. Strengthening the club’s options at wingback is likely to be a more pressing need than recruiting another centre-half.
