Manchester United don’t have a realistic chance of signing Real Madrid forward Vinicius Jr, according to journalist Fabrizio Romano.
There were suggestions in the Spanish media last week that the Brazilian would consider leaving the Bernabeu, with the Red Devils one of his main suitors along with Chelsea and Paris Saint-Germain but, speaking on his YouTube channel, Romano refuted those claims:
“As of today, linking Vinicius Junior to Chelsea, PSG or Manchester United is absolutely not realistic. Interest is normal, but there is nothing ongoing.”
Considering the costs involved, United would have faced an uphill task finding the funds for Vinicius anyway, even if he was interested in the move.
What are United’s transfer plans?
The departure of Erik ten Hag and the appointment of Ruben Amorim has shifted the power dynamic at the club. The Portuguese will be the first “head coach” in the club’s history. He will still have input on transfers but not the final say.
It is believed that sporting director Dan Ashworth, technical director Jason Wilcox and chief executive Omar Berrada will lead the club’s recruitment in future transfer windows.
Amorim is, though, expected to be consulted on which current United players will be handed new contracts and who should be sold. There would be no point in keeping certain members of the first-team squad if they are not going to get any game time under the new manager.
There have already been links to 3 Sporting Lisbon players
Despite Amorim’s lack of power on signings, it hasn’t stopped the rumour mill from claiming that some players from his former team could move to Old Trafford in the future.
Teenage winger Geovany Quenda, centre-back Goncalo Inacio and striker Viktor Gyokeres have all been mentioned in reports over the past few days.
