Manchester United have become the latest team to express their interest in Brentford striker Ivan Toney.
According to the Athletic, United have discussed a move for the 28-year-old amid interest from a number of Premier League rivals.
There is also still a chance that Toney could remain at Brentford as manager Thomas Frank has been vocal about his hopes of keeping him at the Gtech Community Stadium.
Manchester United has been busy so far in the transfer window with the addition of Joshua Zirkzee and Leny Yoro with rumors of Matthis De Ligt, Manuel Ugarte, and Xavi Simons also circling.
Ivan Toney is the latest in a long list of players that Erik Ten Hag wants to move to Old Trafford this summer as the club is trying to undergo somewhat of a transformation this year under new majority owner Sir Jim Ratcliffe.
Manchester United’s competition for Ivan Toney
Since the start of the summer, at least five Premier League clubs have shown serious interest in Toney. SportBible suggests that Spurs and West Ham are currently in the best position to sign the striker.
However, Arsenal has previously been backed to land the 28-year-old as they look for a striker that can consistently stay fit in their starting XI following Gabriel Jesus’ injury struggles.
Chelsea have also been linked with Toney as they have yet to sign a goalscorer which was one of Enzo Maresca’s targeted positions this summer.
Thomas Frank is keen on holding onto Toney
Speaking to SportBible, the Brentford manager expressed his desire to keep hold of Toney if possible this summer.
He said: “He’s a Brentford player and I would love him to stay. That would give me a very positive challenge.
“But I haven’t met a coach who doesn’t want as many good players as possible. Right now, Ivan is a Brentford player.
“I would be more than happy if he stayed with us. He’s a goalscorer and that’s very good to have in your team so if you want to buy him, it’s expensive.”
