Manchester United are weighing up whether to make an approach for Chelsea forward Christopher Nkunku.
The Red Devils have a longstanding interest in the France international and there is a possibility that the club will make an offer for the player.
Sky Sports News claim that the Red Devils are currently “discussing internally” whether to make a loan bid for Nkunku ahead of the transfer deadline next week.
The 27-year-old is not a key member of the Blues’ first-team squad, despite scoring 13 goals in all competitions so far this season.
United may have competition for the player
Reports in the German media suggest that Nkunku already has a verbal agreement with Bayern Munich to make the switch to the Allianz Arena.
However, the Bundesliga leaders are not expected to make a move to sign the Frenchman unless Mathys Tel is willing to move in the opposite direction to Chelsea.
The London club want Tel but the winger is said to have made it clear that he wants to remain at Bayern despite having limited game time.
A lot may hinge on what happens with Garnacho
Although the deals are likely to be negotiated separately, Chelsea’s interest in Alejandro Garnacho could have ramifications for Nkunku.
If Garnacho does leave the Red Devils and makes the move to Stamford Bridge, there is a good chance that Nkunku will be let go.
At the moment, it is unclear whether a loan offer for the forward would be accepted. United may need to include an option or obligation to buy at the end of the season for the proposal to be considered.
For now, no official approach has been made but it seems Nkunku is a genuine target for Ruben Amorim’s side this month.
