Manchester United are expected to sell Alejandro Garnacho if they receive an offer in the region of €70m (£59m) this month, according to journalist Fabrizio Romano.
Speaking on his YouTube channel, Romano said that Chelsea and Napoli will hold talks with the Red Devils, although the latter are unlikely to meet the player’s valuation:
“From what I understand, Chelsea had fresh contacts with Man Utd for Garnacho again [on Monday]. They will have more contacts in the next [few] days.”
“Napoli will do the same because they will try to negotiate on the price because €70m is currently too much for Napoli.”
Garnacho is not a key part of Amorim’s plans
Despite starting the win over Arsenal in the FA Cup, and the game against Southampton last week, the 20-year-old was back on the substitute’s bench for the defeat to Brighton on Sunday.
Since the appointment of Ruben Amorim back in November, Garnacho has been in and out of the first eleven. The new manager has had concerns about the winger’s attitude, leading to him being dropped from the matchday squad for the Manchester derby.
He did return to the team but there is still a feeling that he may not be what Amorim is looking for in terms of the right fit for the front three.
United need to raise funds
Another motivation for offloading Garnacho is the impact his sale will have on the club’s accounts. He would go down as pure profit on the balance sheet due to the fact that he came through the youth setup.
It means the Red Devils would be able to spend more in the last couple of weeks of the transfer window. The club are already in talks to sign Lecce’s Patrick Dorgu but Garnacho’s departure could free up resources for additional signings.
