Reliable Journalist Says United Are Battling London Clubs For £42M Forward And They “Could Go On The Offensive” Soon

Manchester United have joined the race to sign Brentford forward Bryan Mbeumo, according to RMC Sport reporter Fabrice Hawkins.

The French journalist, who has broken many transfer stories over the years (including Wesley Fofana’s move to Chelsea), claims that the Red Devils are interested in snapping up the Cameroon international this month.

Arsenal and Tottenham are also weighing up their own moves for Mbeumo and it is believed that any of the three clubs may make a formal approach over the coming weeks.

Hawkins says there is a strong possibility the trio “could go on the offensive” before the transfer window closes.

Mbeumo has been in excellent form for Brentford

The 25-year-old has scored 13 times in 21 league appearances so far this season, and that has clearly attracted the attention of United and others.

Mbeumo’s club are unlikely to let him leave on the cheap. His Transfermarkt value is €50m (£42m) but Hawkins suggests that his actual asking price is a lot higher than that.

United are looking to replace Antony

One of the reasons why the interest in Mbeumo has a great deal of credibility is due to his profile. He is a left-footed right winger.

Considering Antony’s future seems to lie away from Old Trafford, the club are likely to be looking for a replacement and Mbeumo does fit the criteria.

The fact that he is an inside forward too means he should also be a good fit for Ruben Amorim’s front three. The Portuguese coach has deployed Amad Diallo in that role for the most part but the young Ivorian does need to have competition for his place in the starting eleven, and Antony isn’t really offering that at the moment.
