Manchester United hold an interest in RB Leipzig striker Benjamin Sesko, according to the Daily Mail reporter Sami Mokbel.
The journalist is usually pretty reliable when it comes to transfers, and he claims that the Red Devils are among the teams who could make a move for the Slovenian international.
Sesko is in great form, having scored 6 goals in his first 9 appearances at club level this season. He has also impressed when playing for his country, scoring a hat-trick against Kazakstan in a Nations League fixture last month.
At 21 years of age, he is one of the most promising young forwards in European football so it is not a surprise that United are keeping an eye on him.
Sesko turned down a Premier League move earlier this year
It is believed that both Arsenal and Chelsea made approaches for the Slovenian at the start of the summer. At the time, the player had a €65m (£55m) release clause.
However, Sesko ultimately decided to reject both London clubs and sign a new contract with Leipzig instead. There are believed to be no clauses in his new deal, although it has been suggested that an offer above €75m (£62.5m) could be accepted.
The transfer will have the backing of a key United figure
Christopher Vivell was appointed United’s Head of Scouting back in July. He is also Leipzig’s former technical director. Speaking about Sesko not that long ago, Vivell said:
“His abilities make him a special player.”
Although United’s interest in Sesko goes back to his time at Leipzig’s sister club Red Bull Salzburg, the presence of Vivell in the club’s recruitment department will undoubtedly move him higher up the list of transfer priorities. It is definitely a move to look out for in the future.
