Manchester United will prioritise a move for a left-back during the January transfer window, according to Caught Offside.
The website claims that Chelsea’s Ben Chilwell and Benfica’s Alvaro Carreras are among the targets being considered.
Chilwell has barely played this season after being frozen out by head coach Enzo Maresca. Combined with the fact that the fullback has had his fair share of injury problems, fans on X don’t think he should be pursued by the club:
Chilwell? Seriously? Of the two, it really needs to be Alvaro.

Chilwell has played just 45 minutes this campaign
The defender was actually banished to the reserves by Maresca before being allowed back to train with the first team after failing to secure a transfer away from Stamford Bridge in the summer.
Chilwell has rarely featured, having not made the matchday squad for a league game. His only minutes came as a second-half substitute during the 5-0 win over Barrow in the third round of the Carabao Cup back in September. He didn’t even make it off the bench for the fourth round tie against Newcastle.
United have a buyback option on Carreras
The Benfica left-back does look like the better choice. He was sold by the Red Devils for €6m (£5m) back in May but it is believed that the club can re-sign him at any point for €20m (£16.7m).
It remains to be seen whether United will trigger the buyback clause for Carreras in the New Year.
