Ex-Manchester United Midfielder Reveals Transfer Choice Amid Tottenham And West Ham Interest

Manchester United academy graduate Angel Gomes has hinted at a return to Old Trafford with his contract at Lille FC set to expire in the summer.

Gomes, 24, has impressed at the French Ligue 1 side so much that he has earned himself international appearances for England, with four caps as things stand.

The midfielder came through the academy at United before moving to Lille FC on a free transfer in 2020. He has since made 132 appearances for the club, scoring nine goals and recording 19 assists.

Gomes has been subject to transfer interest from Manchester United, who could make a pre-contract agreement with the midfielder whose deal at Lille expires in the summer. United currently sit 12th in the Premier League, coming off the back of a 1-0 win against Fulham.

According to FourFourTwo, Gomes has attracted transfer interest from Man United and Tottenham but would prefer a return to Old Trafford over Spurs.

The report includes an interview that Gomes did in 2022, where he suggested that he would like to return to Manchester United. He said: “Do I imagine myself coming back one day? Obviously, it’s home. I would love to come back. But you never know in football. I just have to keep my feet on the ground, and keep playing, making the most of it. I can’t predict what will happen in the future.”

Now that reports of United interest in Gomes are emerging, it seems a natural fit for the 24-year-old to join with Ruben Amorim and return to Old Trafford.

Manchester United face Premier League competition to sign Gomes

The Reds Devils will have to contend with Tottenham if they are to re-sign Gomes, as they are reportedly keen on signing the England international in order to strengthen in midfield.

Furthermore, a recent report by Caught Offside, has said that West Ham are also interested in signing Gomes, and that they have made a pre-contract offer to the 24-year-old.

It also says that Tottenham have spoken to the midfielder, meaning that if United want to land Gomes, they may have to begin talking with him sooner rather than later.
