Manchester United are keeping tabs on Andreas Christensen’s situation at Barcelona, according to Sport.
The Catalan publication claims that the Red Devils are “on the lookout” if Barca decide to dispense with the 28-year-old’s services before the transfer window shuts.
Christensen is still part of Hansi Flick’s first-team plans but, due to player registration issues, he could be forced into offloading the defender.
Sport report that either Christensen or teammate Eric Garcia will be sold over the coming days, and the favourite to leave is the Denmark international due to the amount of interest being shown in him.
3 Premier League teams are pursuing Christensen
It is believed that Tottenham and Newcastle are also keen on the centre-back but the Magpies may not be able to make an offer due to Financial Fair Play restrictions.
Christensen has, of course, played in the Premier League previously, having spent the best part of eight years with Chelsea before leaving to join Barcelona on a free transfer two years ago.
United wouldn’t have to pay a huge fee for the defender
Due to Barca’s financial situation, they are reportedly prepared to sell Christensen for only €25m (£21m). That is a price that United may consider paying but only if they are able to free up some space in the squad.
Manager Erik ten Hag currently has 6 centre-halves, including Harry Maguire, Jonny Evans, Lisandro Martinez, Victor Lindelof and new arrivals Matthijs de Ligt and Leny Yoro.
You would think that Lindelof and (potentially) Maguire would probably have to leave Old Trafford for Christensen to be brought in. With just a week left to go before the transfer deadline, it seems unlikely that this will happen. It’s probably wise to treat this report from Spain with a large pinch of salt.
