Manchester United and Newcastle are still potential destinations for Adrien Rabiot, according to TEAMtalk.
The website claims that Turkish giants Galatasaray are the current favourites to sign the midfielder, who reached the World Cup final with France in 2022.
However, it is believed that both the Red Devils and the Magpies “remain in the mix” for Rabiot, who is currently a free agent after leaving Juventus at the start of July.
The 29-year-old has been struggling to find a new club, with TEAMtalk reporting that the player’s “high financial demands” are putting off potential suitors.
Rabiot is under pressure to find a new team
The player was omitted from France’s squad for this month’s Nations League fixtures, with manager Didier Deschamps openly stating that he won’t be picked again until he signs for another club:
“Rabiot has a slightly embarrassing situation. He had 100% choice, his contract was expiring and he is wanted by several teams. But now he is without a team and does not train in a group. I hope he can quickly choose a club that can then bring him back to us.”
Will United make a move for the midfielder?
TEAMtalk do raise questions about the Manchester club’s interest in Rabiot, and they suggest that INEOS’s desire to lower the age of the first-team squad may count against the Frenchman.
Although Rabiot doesn’t turn 30 until April next year, the feeling is that, combined with his high wage demands, the club may not take a risk on him.
An approach for Rabiot is even less likely if you also take into account that United didn’t manage to offload another ageing midfielder, Christian Eriksen, before the transfer window closed. The smart money at the moment is on him making the switch to Galatasaray but things could still change over the coming days.
