United Told They Can Sign “Fantastic” Midfielder For £40M And “He’s Better” Than Bruno Fernandes

Ex-Manchester United defender Paul Parker says his former club should consider making a move for Crystal Palace’s Adam Wharton.

Speaking to mybettingsites.co.uk, Parker claimed that the 20-year-old is a better passer than current club captain Bruno Fernandes:

“His range of passing is fantastic. He very rarely gives it away. He’s always positive with his passing as well. Very, very positive. I think he’s got a long range. His longer range of passing is good.”

“Bruno’s is good, but I think he’s better. He doesn’t give the ball away as cheaply as Bruno. But you have to say if someone does come in, I see them selling for £40m or £50m and after one season. I think every Crystal Palace fan will have to say that’s great business.”

Wharton is a highly regarded young player

Palace saw off a lot of competition to sign the midfielder from Blackburn Rovers for an initial £18m during the January transfer window.

After impressing in the second half of the season, Wharton was included in England’s squad for the European Championships, although he didn’t make it off the bench during the competition.

United’s rivals Manchester City have already been heavily linked with a bid for the player so Parker’s claim that he could be sold for between £40m to £50m is debatable.

Fernandes’s future at United is up in the air

While some may dismiss Parker’s comparison between Wharton and Fernandes, it must be pointed out that Erik ten Hag’s side may need a replacement for the Portuguese international soon

Journalist Fabrizio Romano confirmed last month that Fernandes’s agent Miguel Pinho had spoken with “several” European clubs about a move away from Old Trafford.

While there doesn’t appear to be any sign that Fernandes will move in the short term, the club do need to have potential successors in mind if the captain does depart in a future transfer window.
