Manchester United set sights on securing £95m double-deal

Manchester United have shown their willingness to splash the cash once again this summer, with Jose Mourinho’s side landing Victor Lindelof from Benfica and Romelu Lukaku from Everton on expensive deals that bolster key areas of the Red Devils’ squad.

Lindelof arrives to bolster a defence that lacked options in particular areas last season, whilst Lukaku is set to lead the line following the exits of both Zlatan Ibrahimovic and Wayne Rooney. However, Manchester United’s spending won’t end there.

The Red Devils are keen on bolstering their midfield ranks with a new central option and are also seeking to improve their squad in wide areas, with The Daily Mail stating Ed Woodward has stayed behind from the club’s pre-season tour of North America to conclude further deals.

According to those reports, Manchester United intend to wrap-up a stunning £95m double-deal before the start of the new Premier League campaign, as they set their sights on a £45m capture of Inter Milan winger Ivan Perisic and also push for the £50m capture of Tottenham Hotspur’s Eric Dier- although the latter will be incredibly difficult to secure.

Dier, a boyhood Manchester United fan, is believed to be open on a move to Old Trafford but Tottenham are not willing to do business for the defender, with Daniel Levy’s reputation as a shrewd negotiator set to cause the Red Devils big issues.

A deal for Perisic is far easier to complete, although Inter are holding out for a figure of £48m, but Manchester United are confident that their latest offer of £45m is enough to persuade the Italian giants into a sale- and, crucially, both parties are keen to conclude a deal before next Tuesday, when Inter fly out to the Far East to commence their pre-season campaign.

Of the two potential deals, the signing of a defensive-minded midfielder could be the key to success for Jose Mourinho’s side as it would allow world-record signing Paul Pogba the freedom to provide more of an impact in the attacking third, following an indifferent season upon his return to Old Trafford.

As well as Dier, Manchester United have been linked with Monaco’s Tiemoue Bakayoko and Chelsea’s Nemanja Matic, although the Blues are unlikely to complete a deal with the Red Devils after Mourinho’s side pipped the West Londoners to the signature of Romelu Lukaku.
