‘Last Chance Saloon’ Former Premier League Manager Issues Manchester United Challenge

Former West Ham United and Newcastle manager Sam Allardyce says Manchester United are facing a ‘last chance saloon’ following their appointment of Omar Berrada from Manchester City.

The Bolton-born man believes that United’s run of disappointment, starting when Alex Ferguson left the club in 2013, has gone on far too long for a club the size of the Red Devils’. He believes that the fans ‘demand or expect’ success – and that they are growing impatient.

He thinks that Berrarda will be a positive appointment, citing his ‘tireless’ work and that the Sky Blues’ infrastructure is a primary reason for their success.

Allardyce has spent plenty of time in the Premier League during his managerial career. He has taken the reins at teams such as Newcastle, West Ham, Leeds United, Crystal Palace and Sunderland – he also spent a brief time in charge of the England national team.

What did Sam Allardyce say regarding the appointment of Omar Berrada by Manchester United?

Speaking to William Hill, Allardyce said: “It’s like the last chance saloon for Manchester United, because there’s so much gone on for 11 years since Sir Alex Ferguson left, without the sort of success that they demand or expect.

“When Jose Mourinho says, I finished second in the Premier League with Man United, which is my best achievement as a manager’ and you look at what he’s achieved in the world of football, it just shows you how difficult the job was.

“I don’t know how much due diligence they’ve done, but we all know the staff at Manchester City have worked tirelessly over the last 12 years. After learning the ropes for three or four years about how to restructure and run a football club, they now do it better than most. Their infrastructure behind Pep Guardiola is one of the reasons why City are so good.”
